About My Work
Freelance Writer/Blogger: Since selling Flying Changes Magazine in May of 2014, I've continued to enjoy writing for the magazine, as well as for The Bend Bulletin's special projects division and other regional publications. My equestrian-themed blog, Dressage for Mere Mortals (www.dressagemortals.com), which was recently awarded a Top 50 Horse Blogs Award by horseclicks.com
Publisher/Editor/Writer: As owner of Flying Changes Magazine, a Northwest equestrian publication from 1992 to 2014, I wrote, edited, and managed this regional monthly publication. My work during that time includes interviews, journalistic reports, creative nonfiction, and humor. I also managed the content for www.flyingchanges.com and the business Facebook page. As part of my customer-service orientation, I helped clients develop publicity and marketing plans to help gain market recognition.
Marketing Communications Writer: Working closely with the Marketing Department, I wrote and managed the production of customer and sales-oriented material for Hewlett-Packard Corporation, Vancouver, WA and San Diego, CA divisions from 1987 to 1992. Favorite pieces included the On Graphics customer newsletter and The Front Page, a mailer to dealers with matching envelope and associated promotional product literature.
Technical Writer: I love making the complex understandable. I produced product documentation ranging from 'How to Use' manuals to programming manuals for Hewlett-Packard, San Diego division from 1983 to 1987. The page-turning HP 7550 Plotter User's Guide earned an Award of Excellence from the Society of Technical Communication.
